UMass-Lowell defeats AIC

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The AIC Yellow Jackets fell to No. 17 UMass-Lowell Riverhawks on Saturday afternoon at the MassMutual Center by the final score of 4-2.
There was no scoring in the first period
Blake Bennett got the Yellow Jackets 1:14 into the second period. AIC defenseman Brian Kramer fired the shot and Bennett was able to deflect it in to make it 1-0.
The River Hawks scored four unanswered goals in the second period Nick Rheaume tied the game as he put in the rebound to even the score at 1-1. Ben Meehan gave the River Hawks the lead with 10:03 remaining in the second period as he scored a power-play goal to make it 2-1. Owen Fowler was able to extend the lead for the River Hawks as he tucked in the rebound to make it 3-1.
Marek Korencik scored for the River Hawks on a turnover with 14:30 remaining in regulation to make it 4-1.
The Yellow Jackets tried to start a comeback in a wild third period as they were given a 5-on-3 power play. Jordan Biro was able to score for the Yellow Jackets to cut down the lead to 4-2. The River Hawks however would challenge the goal for goaltender interference and after video review. The goal was waived off as it was still 4-1 UMass-Lowell.
Julius Janhonen would score his sixth goal of the year with 5:19 remaining in regulation to make it 4-2.
UMass-Lowell was able to hold on for the victory.
The AIC Yellow Jackets will take on the road for the next four games as they will head to the University of Vermont on Saturday followed by a trip to Army West Point for the final matchup in the season series next Tuesday. The road trip will conclude with a weekend series against Mercyhurst next weekend.
The next home game for the AIC Yellow Jackets will be on Thursday, February 2 against Sacred Heart University at the MassMutual Center. The puck drop will be at 7:05 p.m.
